Choreographer | Researcher | Founder of the Ministry of Tease
About
Dr Josephine Ivanova (stage name Luna Sin) is a choreographer, researcher and founder of the Ministry of Tease — Greece’s first and only school and company devoted exclusively to Burlesque.
Holding a PhD from the University of Edinburgh and extensive experience as a Lecturer and Module Leader at Edinburgh Napier University, she bridges artistic practice with academic methodology (Stanislavski, psychodrama, embodiment) to create a distinctive pedagogical model centred on persona and stage presence.
Academic Background
She holds a Fellowship Diploma (FLCM) in Music & Dance Performance with a specialisation in Modern Jazz, and an MMus in Dance History and the role of Art in vulnerable social groups (University of Edinburgh).
She is also a certified Lifestyle Medicine Coach (European Lifestyle Medicine Organization, Belgium), specialising in stress management through music and dance.
Artistic Work
As a choreographer and performer, she has created productions for theatres, cabarets and festivals, combining aesthetics, satire and theatricality.
She has collaborated with major cultural institutions such as the Athens Concert Hall (Megaron), the Municipal Theatre of Ilioupolis, the Theatre of the Rocks, and Technopolis, as well as renowned theatres in Greece and abroad.
Her work has been featured in cultural festivals across the country, numerous radio interviews and international television appearances.
Teaching & Research
As a researcher and educator, she integrates Stanislavski-based acting techniques, psychodrama and embodiment practices into her teaching, focusing on the systemic training of persona and stage presence.
Her approach positions Burlesque not only as a performance art, but as a powerful tool for personal expression, resilience and self-understanding.
Training & Influences
Luna’s artistic journey began with years of training under Lena Zampoura and Kaiti Tsilimigra in Ballet and Modern Jazz, followed by work with renowned Hollywood choreographer Ryan Francois (Swing Kids, Malcolm X) in Authentic Jazz.
She is the niece of American burlesque performer Georgia Moranti, while her mother was a member of Josephine Baker’s ballet company in France.
Musical Background
She studied at the National Conservatory of Athens under Russian pianist Igor Tarashansky, earning a Piano Soloist Diploma with First Prize, and pursued composition studies with Nikos Kypourgos, Dimitris Lionis and Diamantopoulos at the Athenaeum Cultural Center.
In Edinburgh, she studied classical and jazz vocals with tenor Andrew Doig (Edinburgh Napier University).
Academic & Museum Work
Dr Ivanova served as Lecturer and Module Leader in the Music & Performing Arts Department at Edinburgh Napier University, and worked at St Cecilia’s Hall Museum of Instruments (University of Edinburgh), curating her own exhibition to critical acclaim.
Her work has been featured by the BBC, The Times, The Herald and The Guardian.
In Short
Luna Sin brings together artistry, scholarship and emotional intelligence — redefining Burlesque as both performance and truth.
